A desperate canine owner facing up to £20,000 in veterinary fees was determined to do anything to preserve the life of his beloved pet. Jaxon Feeley, a motivational podcast host and prison officer, has two Weimaraners that he adores, 2-year-old Rambo and her older sibling Rocky. Weimaraners are an extremely active and energetic dog breed, so Jaxon sensed there was something amiss with Rambo immediately when she wasn’t behaving like herself.
Jaxon kept a close watch on Rambo, and after the dog vomited over 30 times throughout the night, she was taken to the emergency veterinarian in the morning. As it transpired, Rambo had a stomach flu that evolved into hypovolemic shock- a critical condition in which severe blood or other fluid loss renders the heart incapable of pumping enough blood to the body. Her health began to deteriorate rapidly, her lungs became severely infected, and she swiftly developed pulmonary edema, meaning fluid was draining into her lungs.
In the veterinarian’s words, Rambo could not have been any more unlucky with what has occurred. The initial cause is still unknown but the situation Rambo is currently in has resulted in her being in intensive care under constant observation,” said Feeley.
While the veterinarians monitored her, the costs started piling up. Rambo had to have the fluids drained from her lungs multiple times a day, and the outlook was not looking favorable. The veterinarian also stated that she might have developed an abscess on one of her lungs that would necessitate very costly surgery.
“Rambo’s insurance has covered her up to £6500 ($A11,300). Her bill is now up to £11,500 ($A20,000) after 1 week in care,” he wrote. “The duration of Rambo’s stay at the veterinarians is still unknown, and intensive care costs approximately £1000 ($A1740)per day,” he continued.
Fearing he would be unable to pay the accumulating bills, Jaxon nevertheless was willing to do anything to save his furry friend, even if it entailed selling his home in Greater Manchester to cover the expenses. He slept in his car alongside Rocky whenever he could so that he could be near the veterinarian’s clinic as he did not want Rambo to suffer alone. He would visit her numerous times a day, simply to reassure her that he was close by.
Hoping that he could receive assistance from others to cover Rambo’s treatment expenses, Jaxon Feeley launched a GoFundMe campaign on 27 January. The campaign swiftly gained momentum and had managed to raise up to £32,540 when he closed it, thanks to 2300 donations from generous individuals who were sympathetic to him and Rambo’s situation.
And then, miraculously, Rambo began to improve.
On 4 February, Feeley posted an update disclosing that Rambo was now at home. “Throughout the past 3 days, Rambo has achieved a miracle, hour by hour she has enhanced her oxygen efficiency, initiated consuming and drinking, her lungs are gradually recuperating and we started to witness that lovely little personality resurface,” he declared. “Yesterday, after conducting every assessment conceivable and evaluating her remarkable progress throughout the previous few days, the team of personnel at the veterinary clinic have been astounded by the power of affection, presence, and genuine struggle for survival,” Jaxon continued.
Rambo is now released from the facility and permitted to go home with her father. According to Feeley, even though she has made remarkable progress, it will still be an extensive journey to regain her health, and she still necessitates round-the-clock monitoring at this time, in addition to a substantial amount of medication. Expressing his appreciation to those who were willing to offer assistance and support him and Rambo during their darkest moments, he wrote: “There are no words to express how thankful I am for everyone’s love, encouragement & donations over the past 2 weeks. It sincerely signifies more than you will ever comprehend. These canines have rescued my life on more than one occasion and I will cease at nothing to rescue theirs. Thank you for everything from the depths of our hearts.”
