Mandy K, 32, was involved in an incident with a polar bear on Friday at the Berlin Zoo after she entered the enclosure during feeding time. She had to climb over a wall, a row of bushes, and a fence to get inside the area.
The bear approached her as she entered the enclosure, causing significant injuries to her arms, legs, and back. Six zookeepers worked to distract the four bears, but one bear bit the victim on the arms and legs. After managing to scare the bear away, the zookeepers were able to assist Mandy.
She underwent surgery to address her injuries and is currently recovering in the hospital.
A spokesperson for the zoo expressed concern about the incident, highlighting the associated risks and the challenges faced by the zookeepers during the rescue.
It was later revealed that Mandy, a teacher, had been experiencing difficulties due to her inability to secure employment. This incident has raised questions about mental health and the challenges people face in stressful situations.
Zoo officials are reviewing security protocols to prevent such incidents in the future. They urge visitors to be aware of the potential risks when near wild animals and to respect the barriers.
